– More than 750 employees participated in the activities
Recognizing the need for continuing awareness on health and safety issues, Emirates Steel, the only integrated steelmaker in the UAE, staged a Health and Safety Day to reinforce employee knowledge in all aspects of health and safety. Held under the theme of “Safety is sty Responsibility”, the event added force to the correct procedures in place and built on the Company’s significant improvement in lost time accidents and injury rates within its plants.
The initiative, the second in a series, reinforced awareness on health and safety issues, provided useful information and practical advice, encouraged activities that have a positive impact in the workplace, and identified and recognized good practice. More than 750 Emirates Steel employees participated in the activities, alongside Company management, Civil defence, and other official organizations.
Safety equipment displays and first aid demonstrations highlighted the event. In addition, 48 employees donated blood to a voluntary donation facility, while others were instructed on health awareness issues by attending short presentations on first aid basics and occupational health and safety hazards, such as confined space entry.
As Emirates Steel’s business grows and becomes more complex, the Company believes that it is imperative that it keeps health and safety issues at the top of its agenda. Although it acknowledges the challenges in its workplace, it believes that they can be surmounted by all of its employees working as a team. The steelmaker made it clear to employees and contractors participating in the day that they should continue to exert their best effort to ensure that its health and safety record is well maintained in the future.
